Its a library on wheels for Kolkata. The West Bengal Transport Corporation(WBTC) has launched a tram service in Kolkata. It is for students preparing for competitive exams. This is world’s first library on wheels.
It will run in the City’s iconic College Street area. ”College Street area is home to the most iconic educational institutions of the City of Joy. To attract students and to reinvigorate the love for trams and reading, this has been introduced,” an official said.
It will start its service on the Shyambazar-Esplanade route. The tram route coincides with around 30 educational institutions like, Scottish Church, Bethune College, Presidency College and many more.
“The tram library being introduced by the WBTC that oversees India’s only functional tramways, is a special tram with books, magazines, moreover which can be read while travelling on the tram,” said WBTC’s Managing Director Rajanvir Singh.
Facilities like free Wi-Fi will be there. The comfort of air conditioner is also provided in the library tram.
”We are also planning book reading sessions, book launches and literary festivals in the tram library in the future,” said Singh.
