Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Endgame reassembled the original six Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Who plotted the reversal of Thanos’ snap with the help of some remaining allies. The whole process took five years, during which Tony was able to concentrate on his family. Including Pepper and their daughter Morgan Stark. However, once the idea of a time heist and the thought of resurrecting Spider-Man came to him. He couldn’t resist the temptation to take part in what might have been his last mission before retiring completely. Unfortunately for him, ensuring that the Mad Titan was no longer a threat necessitated a personal sacrifice.
Robert Downey Jr. (via @thewinternervs) posted a video of himself filming Iron Man’s snap; on his official Instagram account in honor of Endgame’s second anniversary. The video continues for a few seconds longer, capturing the actor’s reaction after the cameras have finished rolling.

In honor of the occasion, Robert Downey Jr. has also shared an alternative opening; of Tony and grown-up, Morgan’s cut Soulworld scene in Endgame. The clip, on the other hand, is potentially more impactful because it evoked nostalgia; for those who saw Iron Man’s snap in theatres in 2019. It’s already relevant for fans to remember the experience when they contemplate what it means for the MCU’s future. However, the fact that I was unable to go to the movies last year; due to the coronavirus pandemic; made seeing this all the more special. Various clips of Robert Downey Jr. filming this scene have surfaced online over the years. But this is the first time a clip has captured his off-camera reaction after filming this scene.
Since the now-iconic “I am Iron Man” line was used, this was taken during last-minute reshoots in Los Angeles. While the majority of Avengers: Endgame was shot in Atlanta; the Russos summoned Robert Downey Jr. and a small crew to a California studio to rework this scene. Tony didn’t mention anything in the original version. But when they realized it was the perfect time to revisit the character’s signature line from his 2008 origins plot; they wanted to remake it. It was a lot of hard work, but considering how it turned out on television, it was well worth it.
