Mental health is very important topic and needs to be discussed. As, it leads to a balanced and healthy life. Also, WHO defines mental health as, “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”.

Why is it important:

Emotional as well as mental health is very essential, as it play a important role in our life. It affects our thoughts, behaviours and emotions. If you are emotionally healthy then you can work more effectively, you won’t face difficulty in making decisions. It plays a vital role in the health of your relationships. Moreover, you will find yourself easily coping with anxiety and difficult situations.

Challenges faced by youth:

In spite of lot of discussions, still children are not able to discuss things with their parents. They try to act as if nothing is wrong and end up crying at night. They also face difficulty in sleeping. Sometimes, you will find your child using phones for hours and this can be because they don’t have anyone to talk to. Most of the teenagers suffer from anxiety and overthinking. They often find themselves wondering about troublesome thoughts.

They feel alone, even if they are living with their parents. They hesitate to share things that might be troubling them. Moreover, they are also afraid to do so as if the parents might overreact and might not understand. So, i guess rather than reacting aggressive, try to understand and talk to them. If you find a change of behaviour in your child, go and talk to them.

Most of the parents often compare their child with a sibling or a child from neighbourhood. Moreover, parent tend to compare the problems they faced during their teenage period with their child’s problem. Henceforth, a child faces difficulty in sharing things with their parents. Every parents have been through that age and dealt with same problems. So, it is responsibility of a parent to try and talk to their child. Moreover, emotions doesn’t understand the phrase “Log kya kahenge?”.

As, I have mentioned above mental health is important. So, I am urging to every parent out there to have an open mind and talk to your child.

Let me end this article with a quote written by Glen Close, “What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor and more unashamed conversation”.
