Evan Peters was ready to play Quicksilver for WandaVision from the beginning. There were a lot of odd moments in Episode 5 of the Marvel Studios series titled “On A Very Special Episode…”. But they saved the best one for last when the Fox X-Men character appeared as his brother before Scarlet Witch.
For some, this might be confusing considering that Pietro Maximoff of the MCU was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, he and Wanda were introduced. However, unlike his sister, Quicksilver did not survive the movie, dying to save Hawkeye. Since then, until WandaVision episode 3 entitled “Now In Color” where Wanda mentioned that she was a twin. After the birth of her sons Tommy and Billy Maximoff. However, he was not mentioned again after that incident. Marvel Studios had great foreshadowing, but their pay-off involved a massive twist. When it was the version of Evan Peters as the speedster that appeared in Westview before Scarlet Witch.
Jac Schaeffer, the WandaVision showrunner, may not be able to say what comes next for the character to move forward. But she is more than happy to talk about the process that led to this creative decision. She reveals that they had the cameo planner early on, talking to Marvel.com. And Peters was immediately game for it because he’s a Marvel and comic book fan in general.
“We were rooting for it for so long and didn’t know if it would be possible. It was complicated to make happen. Evan Peters was always up for it — like, always, always, always. He is a comic book fan and a Marvel fan. He is always up for the absolute weirdest option. And he’s a pleasure — truly a pleasure to work with. Everybody was really excited. I think Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] wanted to make sure that there was a reason for it, that it made sense. And I hope that’s what we did.”
At this point, it is unknown how this version of Quicksilver made its way into the MCU. Although this might be part of the plans of Marvel Studios to establish their multiverse. Alongside Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, WandaVision will play an important role in that endeavor. Two other Phase 4 projects that Scarlet Witch is expected to be involved in. It is possible that Peters’ Quicksilver is just the first character from the Fox X-Men franchise to make the jump. Depending on how they navigate around this situation of a character technically from a different universe now in the MCU.
That doesn’t mean, however, that in that separate franchise, Marvel Studios will necessarily absorb whatever happened; it’s just that key players can now travel to other dimensions. One thing is for certain, whatever the case may be: the appearance of Peters’ Quicksilver in WandaVision is driving the hype around the Disney+ project further. It’s worth noting that Wanda almost explained to Vision before his arrival.
What was really going on in Westview after discovering that not everything in the city was what it seemed to be. This version of Quicksilver may just be a ruse to distract the couple from their burgeoning conflict. In any case, it sounds like they have a solid plan to bring him into the MCU, based on Schaeffer’s comments.
